You can teach an old sysadmin new tricks. I had been wondering why CUPS network printers did not turn up on Ubuntu systems. Well, quite a bit of googling pointed me in the right direction. The key was noticing that the default install did not include certain Avahi programmes. So, one quick “sudo apt-get install avahi-utils” later, I was happily printing to a printer shared on an openSUSE server.
