The one thing missing from my ownCloud instance was encrypted communications. A bit of research yielded an ssl certificate for the low price of 0 EUR. Never having set up ssl on Apache before, I had to learn ssl configuration in Apache. Well, now I know and can easily do the configuration again.

There were some security issues related to having my cloud services hosted on infrastructure that’s not under my control. Besides that, my hosting provider had a rather inflexible setup for my needs. The result of this was that I moved my cloud services onto a private server fully under my control.

The public services of the home server were migrated to another box. Fortunately, the only difficult part during the process was transferring the rather custom Postfix configuration. A bit of data migration still remains to do. That is very easy, but does take a long time over 100 Mbps.

The home server that this blog is hosted on has started crashing frequently after five years of reliable service. It would appear that a failure of the motherboard is the cause. Ideally, I’d simply replace the motherboard, but socket AM2 micro-ATX motherboards are hard to come by these days. Migrating services to another box might be a more viable solution.

During the past week or so, I’ve been busy setting up a website related to a proposition for a secular state. The final wording of the proposition is not finished yet. However, those fluent in Finnish can read the current version at http://yhdenvertainensuomi.fi/?page_id=4.

WordPress has been installed on blog.torrkulla.net. That was the easy part. Next up is tweaking the site.
